Overview

Lead a multidisciplinary informatics team that supports, implements, and optimizes Epic clinical and business solutions to improve patient care, operational performance, and regulatory compliance. Combine deep Epic application knowledge, strong people leadership, and project delivery skills to translate clinical and operational needs into scalable technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team leadership and development: Supervise a team of Epic clinical and business informaticists; hire, mentor, set goals, conduct performance reviews, and develop career pathways.
  • Program management: Plan, prioritize, and oversee multiple concurrent Epic projects and operational enhancements from intake through deployment and post-live stabilization.
  • Clinical and business strategy: Partner with clinical leaders, operations, revenue cycle, finance, and IT to define informatics priorities that align with organizational strategy.
  • Solution design and governance: Lead requirements gathering, build/design reviews, configuration oversight, and decision-making within established governance structures.
  • Epic domain ownership: Ensure best-practice configuration, workflows, build standards, and documentation across assigned Epic modules (e.g., Ambulatory, Inpatient, Orders, Scheduling, Revenue Cycle).
  • Change management: Coordinate training, communications, and adoption plans; measure adoption and drive continuous improvement.
  • Quality, safety, and compliance: Ensure informatics solutions support patient safety, privacy, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Budget and vendor oversight: Contribute to budget planning, manage vendor relationships, and ensure fiscal stewardship for informatics initiatives.
  • Metrics and reporting: Define and track KPIs for system performance, project delivery, user satisfaction, and clinical/operational impact; present outcomes to leadership.
  • Incident and escalation management: Oversee complex incident resolution, triage build issues, and serve as escalation point for system or workflow problems.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of progressive informatics experience with at least 3 years supervising clinical or technical staff and leading Epic-focused projects.
  • Epic experience: Demonstrated hands-on experience with Epic implementations, upgrades, and optimization across clinical and business modules.
  • Technical knowledge: Solid understanding of clinical workflows, interfaces, reporting tools, and Epic build/configuration principles.
  • Leadership skills: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and manage competing priorities.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience presenting to executive leadership.
  • Regulatory understanding: Knowledge of HIPAA, meaningful use/QPP, and other healthcare regulatory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree: Master's in Nursing Informatics, Health Informatics, MBA, or related discipline.
  • Certifications: Epic certification(s) relevant to supported modules; Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) or ANCC Informatics Specialist preferred.
  • Clinical background: Current or prior clinical licensure (RN, NP, PA) or strong clinical experience.
  • Project management: Formal project management training or PMP certification.
  • Data/analytics skills: Experience with Epic reporting tools (Clarity, Reporting Workbench, Cogito, Kaleidoscope) and basic SQL knowledge.

Working Conditions and Reporting
  • Reports to: Director of Informatics & Technology.
  • Work environment: Position based on-site with travel to satellite locations as needed.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to other sites or vendor meetings as required.
