Underwriting Specialist

Hybrid, Sparks, MD – 2-3 days in the office

Full time

MUST have P&C/commercial experience. Captive experience is a plus.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of property and casualty insurance policies and the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.

The Underwriting Specialist will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Analyze P&C Insurance policies for completion
• Analyze loss runs/claims history and propose appropriate terms & conditions, as necessary.
• Conduct underwriting calls with clients to discuss risks and obtain appropriate data for actuarial pricing
• Review large amounts of raw data and information for accuracy
• Provide clients with underwriting documents to support suggested eligible coverages for current policy year
• Provide explanations for the various lines of coverage offered
• Review and coordinate with various departments for underwriting sign-off

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years underwriting experience required
• 2+ years of experience reviewing commercial property & casualty policies preferred
• P&C license or industry designation preferred
• Captive insurance experience is preferred
• P&C background reviewing policies to ensure complete files
• Demonstrated the ability to maintain organization and keep track of important details in a busy work environment Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to type quickly with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office with a concentration in Microsoft Excel
• Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capabilities
• Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
• Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high- quality standards
• Forward-looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
• Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt through feedback
